Les Miserables The Musical – A Story Filled All Types of Emotions


 
Les Misérables which is more commonly known as Les Miz or Les Mis is a musical program based on a novel by Victor Hugo who is a French playwright and poet. The popular music of Les Mis was given by Claude-Michel Schönberg while lyrics were written by Jean-Marc Natel and Alain Boublil.

The Plot

The plot of Les Misérables musical brings different stories based on different characters who are shown as strugglers for revolution and redemption. A collaborative that comprises of factory workers, student revolutionaries, prostitutes and many others join leading characters.

Characters

There are many characters in Les Miz and each one of them has a very strong story of life and a few of the characters are described below.

1 – Jean Valjean

 

Jean Valjean is the protagonist as a bailed convict who tries to find work for him but couldn’t because of parole note. When he does not see any way out, he decides to hide his real identity by tearing his original passport so that he can live again.

2 – Fantine

 

 
This is the character of a single mother who wants to take good care of her child and when she couldn’t find a job, she finds no other way than getting into prostitution.

3 – Javert

 

 
Javert is the character of a police inspector who also served as prison guard and he wants to hunt down Jean at any cost.

4 – Éponine

 

 
Eponine is the character of a young girl who loves Marius secretly. She is the daughter of Thénardiers.

The Longest Running Musical

The musical was launched on 8 October, 1985 in London’s Barbican Centre and soon became world’s 2nd longest running show; the first was Fantasticks. In addition to this, it also became the longest running musical in West End Region and in the entire history of Broadway this show came as the 4th longest running show. The show celebrated its 10th thousands presentation at Queen’s Theatre, West End, London in January 2010. During the same year on October 3, Les Miserables celebrated the twenty-fifth anniversary.
